ABOUT SAM
Sam Monroe is a drummer, instructor, and composer based in Washington, D.C. Originally from California's Monterey Peninsula, he started playing drums at the age of nine and was playing in clubs and restaurants by the time he was thirteen.
Sam has performed at many of the nation's great jazz festivals including several appearances at the Monterey Jazz Festival and has completed tours in Italy, Austria, and Eastern Europe.
As a prolific recording artist, Sam's ability to adapt to multiple styles has landed him on jazz, rock, latin and symphonic albums by such leaders as Jamie Breiwick, Don Linke, Matt Meixner and The Jason Seed Elixir Ensemble.
Sam began his teaching career in Milwaukee, WI in 1998. A life changing move, he established himself as a patient, thoughtful and creative teacher.
As a musician, Sam is rooted in the history and language of the drums always eager to expand on its musicality and sound.
Sam resides in Washington, D.C. with his wife and two pug dogs.
